The Bahamas Celebrates 50 Years of Independence

The Bahamas is celebrating 50 years of political independence from the British with street parades today.

Prime Minister Phillip Davis, told a huge crowd at Clifford Park in the early hours of this morning, that independence is the first step in a long journey.

Barbados became independent on July 10, 1973.

The 50th-anniversary celebrations are being attended by regional and international guests including Rwanda President, Paul Kagame, Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, Commonwealth Secretary General, Patricia Scotland, and US Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
