The Opposition has amplified its call for the Transport Ministry to take steps to repurpose all Transport Centres in the country to accommodate coaster bus operators in a bid to reduce traffic congestion.

Last Wednesday, Chairman of the Transport Authority, Owen Ellington outlined elements of a draft proposal, which included the repurposing of the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre to accommodate public passenger operators.

The aim is to combat the culture of loading and off-loading passengers in live lanes, as well as to reduce the risk of people being hurt.

Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Mikael Phillips welcomed the move regarding the Half-Way-Tree Centre, but stressed the importance of implementing a similar initiative at centres islandwide.
