A class action suit which is now before the Supreme Court could bar the government from collecting more than $200 million in traffic fines for this year.

This, after Justice Sonia Bertram-Linton granted an order barring the police from issuing traffic tickets in excess of the rates for fines, stipulated by law, as of 2006.

The injunction will remain in effect until the trial in 2023.

Attorney at law Gavin Goffe, is representing software engineer  Maurice Housen, in the suit against the attorney general and the commissioner of police.

The court has permitted Housen to be the representative for drivers and motor vehicle owners who were issued traffic tickets and paid a fine or fixed penalty in excess of the measures approved  in 2006.
