Legendary musical duo Steely and Clevie have filed a copyright lawsuit against Reggaeton singer Luis Fonsi for his biggest song, ‘Despacito’.

Cleveland Browne and the estate of the late Wycliffe ‘Steely’ Johnson are suing Warner Music, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Universal Music Latin Entertainment, and several others for infringing on their work.

According to reports, the lawsuit states that Luis and the named labels in the suit infringed on the work of Steely and Clevie’s 1989 classic ‘Fish Market’, also known as Poco Man Jam Riddim, citing that Despacito has the same rhythm pattern. Poco Man Jam riddim was a big hit in the late 1980s.

The suit further states that Steely and Clevie recorded and wrote the song titled ‘Fish Market’ and that the recording and composition for the song are registered with the United States Copyright Office.

Steely & Clevie was a Jamaican dancehall reggae production duo, Wycliffe Johnson and Cleveland Browne.

Wycliffe Johnson, died in 2009, the cause of death was a heart attack following pneumonia.
