Vendors affected by the recent fire at the Shoes Market in Montego Bay, St. James, are being invited to discuss and decide on the design for a new market.

Fire of unknown origin destroyed some of the shops in the market on Sunday, displacing several vendors.

The St. James Municipal Corporation hosted a meeting with the vendors yesterday (Fri), to get their input on the way forward.

Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Richard Vernon, pointed out that the vendors and the Corporation, need to come to an agreement on how the rebuilt market will look, the number of shops it will have and the type of business allowed there.

This in the wake of reports that the market, was a haven for criminals, prostitutes and other non vending activities.
