ROOTS PLAYS GETS AWARD SHOW

Actors and producers of roots plays are finally being recognized.

They were honoured over the weekend with their own award show at the inaugural Roots Theatre Awards at Hibiscus Lodge in Ocho Rios.

The event was co-produced by the Jamaica Roots Theatre Foundation, Dynamite Productions and Lacell Entertainment.

It saluted stalwarts and current stars of a genre that has enjoyed a grass roots following for over 40 years.

Among the theatre honourees are Maxwell Grant, who has served Jamaican theatre for over 50 years. Grant,  starred in numerous hit comedy plays, including Maama Man, Bashment Granny, Passa Passa and Set Up.

Also honoured was Andrea ‘Delcita’ Wright, who has delighted Jamaicans for many years; and Bad Boy Trevor and Judith Shank, both of whom also have careers in theatre stretching back 30 years. A host of other theater practitioners were honoured.
