Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones has supported the call for traffic marshals to be utilized during motorcades, leading up to the Local Government Election next Monday.

This follows at least 2 serious incidents during political motorcades, since nomination day, February 8.

In the latest incident, 15-year-old Lamar Grey, died after falling from a bus while travelling in a motorcade in Southborough, in Portmore, St. Catherine, on Sunday.

On nomination day, a woman lost one of her legs in St. Thomas.

Following the incidents, stakeholders in the transport sector called for measures to be put in place to ensure safety.

President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, Egerton Newman, said motorcade marshals could reduce the likelihood of death or injury, as Jamaicans support their political leaders.

Dr. Jones said he supports this appeal as it will save lives.
