RESIGNATION OF RUEL REID WILL NOT IMPACT PEP, ASSURES PM

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has sought to assure that the resignation of Ruel Reid as Education Minister, will not impact the Primary Exit Profile PEP Examination.

This after concerns were raised about the effects of the resignation, the transfer of oversight responsibility to the Office of the Prime Minister and the investigations to be undertaken at the ministry, in the wake of allegations of mismanagement.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday (Wed), Mr. Holness said he expects to get a report today on the Ministry’s status regarding the PEP examinations.

One component of PEP was already done in February. The remaining two components are to be conducted next week and next month.

Mr. Holness sought to assure that the Education Ministry will be properly managed.

Karl Samuda has been assigned to the Ministry to assist.

MEANWHILE

The Jamaica Teachers Association JTA has expressed shock, at the resignation of Ruel Reid as Education Minister.

In a statement yesterday (Wed), the JTA sad it will continue to monitor the development within this Ministry, as education is too important a sector to be shrouded in alleged corruption and controversy.

The Teacher’s Association said it will remain vigilant and responsible in the best interest of the sector.
