Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is working on plans to increase the number of vaccinators in the system, and to improve the overall convenience of the process.

The Prime Minister’s statement comes as persons who turned up to vaccination sites across the island yesterday, were met with crowds and long wait times.

Several persons took to social media to complain that they had to wait for hours to get vaccinated. Others spoke of the lack of organization at some of the sites, which they said were not equipped to deal with the crowds.

There were also reports that persons were turned away from some sites which did not have enough vaccines to inoculate all of those who went to the locations.

Addressing the issue in a tweet on yesterdayPrime Minister Holness said there was an uptick in turn out at vaccination centres across the island.

He noted that he had a fruitful meeting on with Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, permanent secretary Dunstan Bryan and Chief Medical Officer DJacquiline Bisasor Mckenzie.

He said they discussed the tremendous pressure on the health system and the incredible sacrifices of health care workers, before adding that steps would be taken to improve the vaccination process.
