The Pineapple Growers Association has expressed concern about the rising cost of fertilizer.
According to the President of the association Everton Farquharson, the cost of the fertilizer which is needed to improve crop yield, continues to increase almost, every month.

He is calling on Agriculture Minister Audley Shaw to offer some assistance.

Agriculture Minister Audley Shaw recently proposed a $100 million financial boost for farmers to help defray fertilizer costs.
During the months of October through to December, the ministry is partnering with Newport Fersan Jamaica Limited to give assistance.
Following this statement, the Jamaica Agricultural Society urged the government to devote some of the funding to the development of locally produced organic fertilizer.
