Speaker of the House of Representatives Pearnel Charles Sr is set to vacate his position and his parliamentary seat on Tuesday.
The 84-year-old Charles is expected to announce his retirement in a statement to the House of Representatives, and swearing in his son Pearnel Charles Jr as Member of Parliament for South Eastern Clarendon.
There had been rumours that the popular trade unionist/politician would retire from the chair and the back benches of the Government prior to the next general election. He had earlier confirmed the plan to retire, but refused to say when.
