OVER 200 EARTHQUAKES RECORDED IN JAMAICA SINCE START OF THE YEAR

Head of the Earthquake Unit Kevin Tankoo has reported that over 200 earthquakes have been recorded in Jamaica since the start of the year.

Commenting on the most recent earthquake yesterday (Tues), Mr. Tankoo said the common thread in most of these earthquakes, is location and time of occurrence.

He is urging citizens, to always be on the alert.

Yesterday’s quake occurred about 1:27pm, with its epicenter located approximately 10 kilometers south of Hope Bay, Portland.

It measured a magnitude of 4.2 and had a focal depth of 7 kilometers.

Residents in Kingston and St. Andrew, reportedly felt the impact.

There was no report of loss of life or damage.
