Opposition Leader Mark Golding has retracted the dead voters comment, which he made on a political platform in St. Andrew on Sunday.
During his address at the weekend, Mr. Golding suggested that some ballots should be cast in the name of deceased voters during the next general election.
The comment sparked public outrage, with groups such as human rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice and the Jamaica Labour Party, calling for clarity and for Mr. Golding’s statement to be retracted.
In response, the PNP said Mr. Golding’s statement was taken out of context.
However, this response was not enough for some government members of parliament, who moved a censure motion against him in the Lower House yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, Mr. Golding retracted the statement but maintained that it was meant to be humorous.
