OMICRON VARIANT CONFIRMED IN JAMAICA

After weeks of speculation, confirmation has finally come, that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, is in Jamaica.

The revelation was made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, while addressing the lower house on Tuesday.

Mr. Holness said test results from a batch of 43 samples sent to the lab at the University Hospital of the West Indies, returned 40 positives.

In reacting to the announcement, opposition spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy, sought clarification on the time line for the samples tested.

And in response to Dr. Guy, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton explained that the results of those samples, have not yet been received.

In the meantime, Jamaica recorded 10 more Covid-19 related deaths, and 754 persons tested positive for the virus.

The deceased are 6 females and 4 males, they range in age from 57 to 96 years.

Four of the deaths were previously under investigation.
