Prime Minister Andrew Holness has provided an update on the initial damage assessment from today’s 5.6 magnitude earthquake.

Several businesses and buildings were affected by the massive quake.

The Prime Minister is also urging the public to remain calm until a complete damage assessment is done.

He says Jamaica’s earthquake protocols have been activated.

Cases at the Supreme Court in Downton Kingston were adjourned for the day due to this morning’s 5.6 magnitude earthquake.

Caribbean Cement Company Limited also released a statement advising the public that their investigations have revealed no damage at the Rockfort Plant in Kingston, and their operations are running as usual.
According to a company statement, their technical team has advised that there was a brief shutdown of energy, which has since normalised.
The statement followed several videos circulating on social media and statements that the plant was damaged.
