Prime Minister Andrew Holness says new programmes will be implemented to help low-income earners access land at cheaper prices, and to renew old informal settlements.

Speaking at the JLP central executive meeting in Ocho Rios, St Ann yesterday (September 17), he said this is to address the ongoing issue of squatting, that exists across Jamaica.

The prime minister said a major concern, contributing to squatting, is unaffordable housing.

Mr Holness added that because of the state of old informal settlements, it is hard to regularize persons.

He said however that his administration remains committed to improving the conditions.
