Kingston Mayor Delroy Williams has refuted claims of a lack of access to water at the popular Crab Circle.

He insisted that the main issue, which led to the vending spot being temporarily closed down, is unsanitary behaviour by a vendor.

The Mayor was responding to concerns raised by public health officials, who carried out an assessment of the area, in the wake of a viral video, depicting the offending vendor.

While describing the actions of the vendor as despicable, Kingston’s Chief Public Health Inspector Grayson Hutchinson, pointed out that the area, does not have a bathroom facility.

In response to questions from journalists, Mayor Williams stressed that when the area was renovated a few years ago, some large black water tanks were installed.

The Crab Circle will remain closed until the various public health breaches identified, are fixed.

Vendors are being warned that non adherence to the closure order, can result in them being fined a million dollars, or imprisoned for a year, upon conviction in court.
