Jamaica’s leaders pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth following her death

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen and Prime Minister Andrew Holness are among world leaders who paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

She reigned for 70 years.

In his tribute, Sir Patrick who is the Queen’s representative here in Jamaica, lauded the queen for her strong sense of duty and lifelong devotion to the service of others. In line with protocol, he lowered his standard to half mast.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Holness said the world has lost a global matriarch, who was a steadying and constant force throughout many crises and periods of difficulty, adding that the queen made an immense contribution to the world in public life and was a close friend of Jamaica.

Opposition Leader Mark Golding also paid tribute to the queen, who he said was a much-respected and loved lady, a symbol of decency, stability and continuity.
