Jamaica has confirmed its second locally transmitted monkeypox case. This pushes the total number of cases confirmed by the Ministry of Health to 4.
The Ministry says the new patient, who is from St. James, is isolated at home and that the parish health department has commenced contact tracing. It said the patient has no recent travel history and was not in contact with the three previously announced cases.
All cases so far were reported among males between 25 and 35 years old. They hail from Clarendon, St. Elizabeth, and St. James.
The Health Ministry says 11 people are quarantined at home and one person has been hospitalized, with the virus.
The Ministry says it will issue a weekly update on the state of monkeypox in the country, on Mondays, via its website and social media platforms.
