Jamaica hit a new peak in its demand for electricity this week.
According to the Jamaica Public Service JPS, the new record can be attributed to the high temperatures impacting the island.
The company notes that as more fans and air conditioning units were turned on to help beat the heat, demand rose from 675 megawatt hours a month ago, to 692 megawatt hours.
Meanwhile, acknowledging that the increased demand will lead to high electricity bills for some persons, JPS has urged customers to ensure that their AC Units and fans are clean and operating at the highest efficiencies.
It notes that when air filters get clogged and become dirty, the normal flow of air is impeded, making ACs work harder and thus, using more power.
The company adds that customers should always go for energy efficient ACs and fans.
