Board members of the Hopewell High School in Hanover will convene a meeting soon to determine how best to improve the institution’s safety and security arrangements.

This follows Wednesday’s gun attack on the school’s bursar, 35-year-old Jermaine Roberts.

Mr. Roberts was killed outside the school gates.

The school’s principal also sustained injuries as he tried to retreat from the vicinity of the attack.

He is recuperating at hospital.

Education Minister Fayval Williams says she is in ongoing dialogue with the school’s Chairman and the Ministry’s Regional Director to see how best support can be given to Mr. Roberts’ family and colleagues.

Mrs. Williams is urging anyone with information about the incident to share it with the police, so the perpetrator may be brought to justice swiftly.

Meantime, the Minister says the passing of Lacovia High School teacher Alexis Tomlinson, has come as a shock to the education sector.

Ms. Tomlinson was reportedly found unresponsive at home by her mother on Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Williams notes that the ministry’s grief counselling officers will also support Ms Tomlinson’s family and school community.
