Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton has expressed concern that some Jamaicans are not taking the influenza (flu) infection seriously.

His concern comes ahead of the flu season which starts next month.

Dr. Tufton warned that the viral infection is not only easily spread from person to person but can lead to illnesses which range from mild to chronic medical conditions.

He said Jamaicans should exercise caution and not be complacent in protecting their health.

Dr. Tufton noted the Government’s commitment to ensuring the flu vaccine is available and accessible to Jamaicans.

He urged private practitioners to procure the vaccines so citizens who seek private health care can also gain access.
