Final preparations are being made to ensure that the 50 new buses received by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) last Friday are ready for the back-to-school period.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz gave an update on the buses while speaking at the post-cabinet press briefing this morning.

Mr. Vaz indicated that the buses were being licensed this morning.

The buses are among some 315 units that the JUTC will deploy on the nation’s roadways for the back-to-school period which begins next week.

Noting Jamaicans’ frustration over the lack of buses and long waiting time, Mr. Vaz said some 125 units have been restored to help meet the demand.

Meanwhile, citizens who depend on public transportation for commuting through the hilly regions of St. Andrew are to see an improvement in the waiting time experienced for buses from the JUTC.

Mr. Vaz said with the new and restored buses to be rolled out next week, residents along hilly routes who have voiced major concern about the buses should receive better service soon.

He said it is critical that the service runs smoothly.
