Jamaica has recorded 46 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing to 1,192 the total number of confirmed positives.

Recoveries moved to 772, as two additional patients were released from care.

Of the 46 newly confirmed cases, there were 22 males and 24 females, with ages ranging from four years to 76 years.

The Health and Wellness Ministry says as the National Public Health Laboratory moves to clear the backlog of cases, over 1,300 tests were done yesterday.

Nineteen of the new positive cases are from the backlog of cases from the period July 5-18, and 27 are recent samples submitted from surveillance being done in-country.

It says Sixteen of the 46 new cases were imported — 15 arriving from the United States, and one from India via the United States, all in early July 2020. Thirteen are contacts of confirmed cases, and 17 are under investigation.
