The St. Elizabeth police have taken a student of the BB Coke High school into custody, following the severe beating of another student at the institution yesterday.

The grade nine student remains hospitalized.

Reports are that shortly after the dismissal of the institution yesterday (Thurs), students were in a line collecting their cell phones when the student was accused by an older boy of stepping on his Clarks shoes.

The older boy allegedly started beating the younger student.

Videos of the incident which are being circulated on social media show the victim lying on the ground with blood on his face.

Another student is seen shaking the boy who appeared unresponsive.

Reports are that the student sustained injuries to his face and right hand.

Officers from the St Elizabeth police division visited the institution today as part of the probe.

Head of the division, acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, provided an update on the incident this afternoon (September 29).

He said formal charges are expected to be laid soon.
