1,393 people were murdered in 2023.
This is 118 fewer than the 1, 511 killed in the same period in 2022, representing a 7.8 per cent decline.
The St. James police division recorded the highest number of murders with 187, followed by St. Andrew South with 123.
In addition to murders, cases of rape, robberies and break-ins also declined.
There were 411 reported rape cases, which is 87 fewer than the 498 recorded in 2022.
Robberies went down by 141, from 921 to 780, while break-ins decreased by 127, from 997 to 870.
Overall, crimes in 2023 declined by 10 per cent or by 543, from 5,098 to 4,555.
