Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he is satisfied that the leadership of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) understands and accepts the institution’s role in protecting the human rights of citizens.

Mr. Holness, who was speaking at a recent virtual forum, was responding to questions about what is being done to ensure members of the Constabulary are trained to consider human rights while conducting their protective duties.

There have been recent incidents where interactions between cops and citizens have raised human rights concern.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the human rights issue has become a significant area of unease, but that massive investments have been made, especially in the area of training to improve the JCF.

He said human rights is a discreet subject in the training of the police.
