The Met Service says social media posts suggesting that temperatures could increase 5 degrees above normal in the next five days, are misleading.

In a statement yesterday (Mon), it said although the graphic outlook accompanying the post appears to be from a trusted source, the interpretation is not accurate.

It said Jamaica has been experiencing higher than normal temperatures, averaging between 1 and 3 degrees in recent weeks.

According to the agency, this is consistent with reports of elevated global temperatures since the start of the year, as well as projections that it presented for May to July.

The Met Service said data shows that temperatures are projected to continue to reach 1 to 2 degrees higher than normal.

It said high humidity, could however, cause temperatures to feel even warmer.

Persons are reminded to maintain adequate hydration and stay cool during hot days.
