Opposition Spokesperson on Education, Dr. Angela Brown Burke says the decision taken by the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) to accept the Government’s wage offer is a clear indication of teachers’ dedication to the sector.

The JTA had initially rejected the Government’s 4 per cent offer but President, Winston Smith said following negotiations, some adjustments were made.

He said 68 per cent of members accepted the offer, 30 per cent rejected, while the remaining 2 per cent abstained.

Dr. Brown-Burke says while she appreciates that an agreement has been reached regarding the longstanding wage issue, she hopes, that in the future, concerns of teachers are handled better.

Meantime, Dr. Brown Burke is urging teachers to continue talks with the Government about issues relating to the Primary Exit Profile Examination (PEP) among other things.
