MOH ADVISES PARENTS AND GUARDIANS TO CLOSELY MONITOR CHILDREN, AS THEY ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DENGUE FEVER

The Health Ministry is advising parents and guardians to closely monitor children, as they are more susceptible to Dengue Fever.

A Dengue outbreak for Jamaica, was declared today (Sat).

Effective Monday October 2, children under the age of 18 years who visit the University Hospital of the West Indies, will not be charged a fee or be required to pay for services at the facility.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie, said the Type 2 strain, which is more likely to affect children, is prevalent now.

She noted that in most cases, Dengue is a mild illness that can be treated at home, but if the conditions worsens, affected persons should seek medical attention.

This as severe Dengue, can result in death.
