The Prosecution has won its first ever appeal of the Court’s decision since the law was amended in November last year.

This, after the Appeal court this morning delivered its judgement to increase the sentence of Lindell Powell who was found guilty of murder On December 2 last year.

Powell was sentenced to 12 years in prison for murders of Oral McIntosh and Ida Clarke which took place in separate incidents in Westmoreland.

However, in a historical decision, the prosecution exercised its right to appeal.

The Director of Public prosecutions had appealed on the grounds that the sentence was unduly lenient.

The appeal court in rule in the prosecutions favour today, ordered that Powell be sentenced to life in prison and serve 24 years and 7 months before being eligible for parole.
