Carnival lovers in Jamaica can now start working on their carnival bodies!
The exciting season is set to kick off on July 1 and will culminate with the grand road parade throughout sections of the Corporate Area on Sunday, July 10.
Carnival in Jamaica (CIJ) committee co-chair Kamal Bankay says, “Having the event sector closed was devastating to us all, but we believe there is no better way to officially start summer than with a carnival.”
It’s all well and good but the only downside to the exciting news is that the carnival will commence without Xaymaca International. In a post captioned ” Dear Xaymacans”, Xaymaca International said they didn’t want to “disrupt the original schedules” of other carnivals within the region, as they are aware that revellers within the region and diaspora may have already booked to participate in other carnival celebrations.
Carnival in Jamaica was first postponed in 2020 after Jamaica recorded its first case of COVID-19. It was then moved to October, only to be rescheduled to April 2021.
