UBER DRIVERS OVERCHARGING CUSTOMERS?

Some Uber customers are now thinking twice about using the platform following stories of users being overcharged by drivers.

The global rideshare company started operating in Kingston last week (June 16) and has even offered persons the opportunity to sign up as drivers for the company. Since operations began, they seem to be hitting several bumps in the road. The first being the Jamaican Transport Authority, which said that the company wasn’t given the go-ahead to operate on the island.

The second bump is alleged overcharging for rides.

Since its launch locally, the rideshare company has attracted customers with lower rates for rides. However, many users are alleging that drivers are charging them more than what is quoted on the Uber app. Customers online have been sharing their experiences with the company. One person said, “Tried Uber tonight, they said it was $372 on the app, the driver msg me one a way n seh is $500, I dont understand”, while another person commented, “I took an Uber from home to work…usually I’d pay $800, the Uber app said $734.87 but the driver charged me $1000 claiming the app is inaccurate”.

On the Uber app, you have the option of paying with cash or with a credit card, and it seems the issue of overpricing affects customers who pay with cash.

Users have also said that they issued their complaint to Uber and were refunded the difference.

Ziptocrats, have you ever taken an Uber, if so what was your experience?
