The wait is over, Jay Z and Pharrell’s song and video for Entrepreneur was released late last night. The single is about black ambition and is part of TIME magazine’s cover story ‘The New American Revolution’ which was curated by Pharrell, which the publication describes as “a series of conversations and essays about creating a more equitable future for Black Americans.”
Pharrell told the magazine that the song shows how difficult it is to be a businessperson in the US, made worse by being a person of colour saying, “there’s a lot of systemic disadvantages and purposeful blockages.” He continued, “How can you get a fire started, or even the hope of an ember to start a fire, when you’re starting at disadvantages with regards to health care, education, and representation?”
The video also featured the likes of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, rapper and entrepreneur Tyler the Creator, actress and entrepreneur Issa Rae and other successful black entrepreneurs in their own respective communities.
