An unusually strong 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck on late Monday afternoon in the Atlantic Ocean near the northern Caribbean.
A United States Geological Survey stated that the quake struck at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres.
The quake was followed by a nearby 4.2 magnitude aftershock 30 minutes later.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located approximately 270 kilometres north- northeast of Antigua and Barbuda.
The earthquake was felt on several islands and caused some buildings to lightly sway in the region
No damage was immediately reported.
