Prime Minister Andrew Holness has indicated that he is focused on doing what is required to accomplish goals set for Jamaica’s 60th Independence celebration instead of just talking about it.

His remarks came in the wake of renewed discussions about removing the Queen as Jamaica’s head of State, following sister nation Barbados’ recent transition into a Republic. The People’s National Party has said that if it returns to Government  it will undertake the process while former Prime Minister PJ Patterson has urged the current JLP Government to have the process done  by next year.

The PNP and its former President have been criticized for not removing the Queen when that party had Government for several years only now to be jumping on the bandwagon. Speaking yesterday at the opening ceremony for the Ocean Eden Bay Hotel in Trelawny, Mr Holness pointed out that he is not into empty symbolism.
