The Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, has stated that the pension scheme for tourism workers will be implemented on January 1, 2022, despite the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Bartlett, speaking at the official opening of the Ocean Eden Bay Hotel in Trelawny on December 9, said the scheme’s implementation comes at a time when the tourism sector is experiencing rapid recovery and workers can once again look forward to a bright future.
He noted that legislation implementing the scheme was approved by Parliament nearly two years ago, but that implementation was hampered by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tourism Workers Pension Scheme is a defined contributory plan backed by legislation that will necessitate mandatory contributions from both employees and employers.
