Opposition Leader, Mark Golding is stressing the importance of attacking the root causes of Jamaica’s crime situation to effectively reduce the high levels of crime and violence in the country.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force had indicated that as of Saturday, there were 1, 111 murders, 105 more than the 1, 006 recorded in the corresponding period last year.

This represents a 10.4% increase in murders compared to last year.

Mr. Golding, who was speaking during a press conference yesterday, noted that Jamaica can only effectively address crime and violence if more focus is placed on the underlying issues plaguing the nation.

He explained that issues including those associated with poverty or poor infrastructure must be addressed.
