The Jamaican government is set to initiate the implementation of health, personal accident, and life insurance programs for practitioners in the entertainment and creative sectors in the fiscal year 2024/2025.

The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport, Olivia Grange revealed this information during a meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of the House of Representatives.

She underscored the critical necessity for such insurance coverage within these industries, citing numerous requests for assistance she has received.

Minister Grange emphasized the significance of addressing the financial burdens associated with funerals for deceased pioneers in the music industry.

To facilitate the launch of the program, she urged practitioners to register on the Ministry’s website, highlighting that enrollment will be a prerequisite for accessing benefits.

She likened this initiative to the existing Jamaica Athletes’ Insurance Plan provided for national sports representatives by the Ministry.
