The country should get an update by next week on whether or not the coronavirus variant is in the general population.
This in the wake of concerns that the recent spike in confirmed covid19 cases may be attributed to the variant.
The concern was raised by the Opposition who sought answers from the government about the testing of samples from persons who recently travelled from the United Kingdom to Jamaica.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the Health Ministry cannot at this time, state if no variant is here. Mr. Holness said more Covid samples have been sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency, for testing.
