The Government has announced that it will be reinstating the annual Festival Song Competition.

The announcement by Culture Minister Olivia Grange follows public outrage over the decision to cancel the competition during the 60th year of Jamaica’s independence.

Ms Grange had said the entries were not up to standard, and only 3 of 123 songs were deemed suitable for the competition.

Speaking this morning at the Jamaica 60 Diaspora Conference, the Minister noted that the competition will be held.

She noted that new entries would be sought in an effort to find songs that are suitable for the competition.

Ms Grange reiterated that the Ministry is looking for quality entries.
