CULTURE MINISTER EXTENDS CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JAMAICAN SINGER JIMMY TUCKER

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange has extended condolences to the family of renowned Jamaican singer Jimmy Tucker.

Tucker passed away on Tuesday at his home in Fayetteville, Georgia in the United States. He was 80 years old.

Minister Grange in a statement this week said Jamaica has lost another great talent.

Tucker, was often lauded as Jamaica’s first singing sensation.

He was famous for his renditions of songs such as ‘Jamaica Land of Beauty’, and ‘Jamaica Arise’ and came to be regarded as the ‘voice’ of the Jamaica National Anthem” .

Other well-known songs by Tucker include “Have Faith” and “Sweet as a Dream”, written by Jamaica’s Clyde Hoyte in the 1950s.
