Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie has announced revised rules for the hosting of outdoor and entertainment events following reports that patrons have been ignoring COVID-19 prevention measures.
Speaking in the House of Representatives yesterday (Tues), Mr. McKenzie said the new rules are expected to restore order to the sector.
Effective August 24, small outdoor events, which have received permits, will be allowed to operate Thursdays to Sundays between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Mr. McKenzie announced that applications for permits must be made to the municipal corporation at least 15 days before the date of the event, adding that a committee will be established at each municipal corporation to receive and review all applications.
Mr. McKenzie said a copy of the permit that has been granted must be displayed at the entrance of the event at least eight hours before the start the event.
He said promoters should ensure that COVID-19 protocols are included in advertisements for events.
Announcements about COVID-19 measures must also be made every 15 minutes during events.
The number of patrons allowed to attend entertainment events has been reduced from 250 to 200.
Up to 30 auxiliary employees and musicians will be allowed.
He said promoters and sound system operators who breach the new rules will be banned for six months
