The Jamaica Tourist Board, JTB says it has taken a decision to disable the events section of its website until further notice.

It says it regrets that oversight resulted in the section remaining on the website during the pandemic.

The JTB’s position comes amidst outrage by many persons including members of the entertainment sector, about how a party was permitted at Rick’s Cafe yesterday (Fri) in Negril Westmoreland, and concerns about breaches of Covid-19 protocols.

Videos of the event have been circulated on social media and show breaches of Covid protocols including patrons not wearing masks.

In a statement today (Fri) the JTB says its extremely disappointed to learn that proper observance of Covid-19 protocols was not in full compliance during the event held at Rick’s Café.

The board says it learnt of the situation from videos in circulation on various social media platforms and that it is the further understanding that “Mocha Fest,” an event which the JTB has endorsed in past years, was a party to the event displayed in the video evidence.

The JTB says its further disturbed that the Jamaica Tourist Board logo was included in promotion of these events adding that it has given no undertaking for sponsorship or endorsement of such activities since the start of the pandemic.

It adds that no permission was given to these, nor any other promoter of events, to use the JTB logo.
