Peoples National Party President Dr. Peter Phillips says Jamaica needs to prepare for an economic future that is not focused on bauxite mining.

Speaking at a constituency meeting in south-west St. Ann last night, Dr. Phillips noted that a bauxite industry will not sustain Jamaica’s future.

He says the government needs to focus on emerging opportunities in areas such as neutraceuticals.

The PNP leader noted that the many indigenous found in the cockpit country can be used for pharmaceutical purposes. He said there are also many other high income industries that can be tapped into while leaving the land intact.
