The United States Department of State has issued a level 4 travel advisory for Jamaica, warning its citizens against travel to the country.

In an update yesterday (Mon) on its official website, the Department told persons not to travel to Jamaica, due to COVID-19 related conditions.

It also advised persons to exercise increased caution in Jamaica due to crime, while noting that some areas have increased risk.

The U-S Department said widespread violent or organized crime is present in areas of the country while noting that local enforcement may have limited ability to respond to serious crimes.

It noted that violent crimes, such as home invasions, armed robberies, sexual assaults, and homicides are common while warning against travel to areas of Kingston, Montego Bay and Spanish Town.

Meanwhile, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has kept its travel alert for Jamaica at a level 2 or moderate tier.

The CDC says Americans should make sure they are fully vaccinated before travelling to Jamaica and should follow recommendations or requirements in Jamaica, including wearing a mask and staying 6 feet apart from others.
