Taylor Swift’s Lover tops Billboard 200 chart

Taylor Swift’s new album, Lover, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated September 7.

According to Nielsen Music, the album earned 867,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending August 29. Out of that, 679,000 were in album sales.

The figures are the largest registered for any album in a single week since Swift’s Reputation debuted with 1.238 million units in its first week in 2017. Out of that, 1.216 million were in album sales.

With the Lover album’s resounding sales, Swift has become the only woman to have six of her albums cross the 50,000 unit sales mark in debut weeks. Eminem is the only other artist to have seen six of his albums hitting this milestone.

Earlier, five other Swift albums, Reputation, 1989, Red, Speak Now and Fearless, debuted atop the Billboard 200 list.

Swift’s latest work has also notched the second-biggest streaming week ever for an album by a woman as well as the second largest for a pop album and the second-biggest of any album in 2019.

Ariana Grande’s thank u, next remains at the top in all these rankings.
