Prime Minister Andrew Holness has questioned the Opposition People’s National Party PNP’s motive, pertaining to crime fighting measures.

He said the Opposition has continued to reject measures suggested by the government, to fight crime.

Mr. Holness was reacting to the Opposition’s lack of support for the extension of the States of Emergency, declared on November 15 and a subsequent suggestion by leader Mark Golding, that the government should introduce pre charge detention as a means to tackle crime.

Speaking during a tour of SOE Area Four, where he received an intelligence briefing yesterday (Mon), Mr. Holness said the government suggested the same measure years ago, which was struck down by the PNP.

He noted however, that he is happy that the Opposition has made the suggestion and will support the measure.
