Opposition Leader Mark Golding says his party is deeply troubled by the deteriorating lawlessness in Jamaica, and the lack of any discernible strategy to stem the tide of violence against women.

In a statement today, he said Jamaica is experiencing panic, concern and a certain numbness from the repeated reports of fatal attacks and abductions of women.

He says following numerous high profile cases in recent weeks, there is general despair and widespread outrage that not enough being done by the State, either to protect women or to empower them to protect themselves.

Mr Golding also called for the Government to significantly expand assistance targeted at rural and inner city poverty, especially households headed by single women.
