Afrobeat singers, Davido, Rema, Burna Boy, Asake, Ayra Starr, and Aya Nakamura, have nominated in the brand-new category “Best Afrobeats” for the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The 2023 MTV EMA nomination list, which was made public on Wednesday, September 4th, featured 18 categories.
Both the ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Collaboration’ categories have recognized Rema’s popular song “Calm Down,” which featured American singer Selena Gomez.
Burna Boy, Asake, Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, Cameroonian diva Libianca, and South African artist Tyler ICU are among the nominees for “Best African Act” category.
The “Best Live Performer” category included Burna Boy among other international stars like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye).
